Review of the series "Witcher". Miscist and problems with a minted coin
"Witcher" from Netflix Subtated to replace "Game of Thrones" , which did not end very well this year. Well, the attributes of a potential hit are obvious: the book source, which has become a classic of the genre, the famous game based on, the gloomy fantasy world, a brutal hero in a flower garden of beautiful women, intrigues, adventures, sex … loud statements that the series will surpass the brainchild of Benioff and Weiss, sounded long before the premiere. However, many reacted skeptical about them, especially when the first promo began to appear, trailers and frames from filming.
Whether this skepticism was justified? Let's say this: to the plank of the last season of “Game of Thrones”, it is not so difficult to finish it … But the “witcher” still in places barely reaches it.
Witcher Geralt is a mutant created to fight monsters. He earns on bread by wandering around the light and kills monsters.
The sorceress Yennifer is a hunchback with an incredible magical gift, which is taken to the local Hogwarts. Alas, in her world young wizards are taught so that before release it is Cosmobet Casino quite possible not to live; To succeed, Yennifer has to make sacrifices, for which she will not be ready.
Young Tsiri is the princess of the small border kingdom. When her house is captured by the troops of the formidable Nilfhaard Empire, Ciri can only run, guided by the last covenant of the dying grandmother: “Find Geralt from Rivia”.
If it seemed to you that the scriptwriters did not bother to interpret the ties of the plot lines interpreted among themselves in order to create at least the illusion of integrity, it did not seem to you. The problem, of course, is in the structure of the source. For the first season, two books of the same cycle of Andgei Sapkovsky were adapted, and they were built more on the principle of procedures. Geralt takes orders in the present, periodically recalling the misadventures of the past – and sometimes years between these "cases" passes. Yennifer appeared only closer to the end of the first volume, Ciri – in general in the second. In order to linen all this and organically introduce three characters at once from the start, you need to show real scenario skills.
But he, unfortunately, is not here. Heroes to the place and not to place are bursting out with a long verbal exposition, while forgetting to tell the viewer the most important thing about himself and about the world (at least about the nature and origin of witches, the hell!). The book and events of the book are ruthlessly redrawing, adding dubious places, plot holes and vulgar orgies instead of beautiful erotica. The characters of the characters are distorted, ambiguous conflicts strive to reduce to black and white, and the fierce denial of Nilfgard turns the antagonists into evil evil, which in 2019 is absolutely unacceptable. All Sapkovsky’s humor, including the banter over the tales of the Grimm brothers, was cut under the root. The plot arches, unfolding at different times, are chaoticly dumped into one pile, without separating the past from the present. A game with color correction or the size of the frame could correct the situation, but no, but the creators obviously did not expect to deliberately confuse the viewer, as, say, in Westworld.
Due to the fact that the original order of stories shook, their best points simply do not work. For example, an epic massacre in the zinta does not make any impression. This in the book we first live the story of the Paettta engagement and we recognize the beautiful Queen Kalante better – their deaths are shocking. Here you do absolutely do not care about all these people: the death of unfamiliar and low -sympathetic characters does not cause any sympathy.
As for the characters themselves, they are beautiful … if you follow the principle of "about the dead either well or in any way". The scriptwriters killed the heroes, and the actors buried them. Castu justified all the fears, and it's not about the appearance or skin of the skin: just most of the performers did not fit into the images. There is no chemistry between them, sometimes they play poorly (the most frequent manifestation of sorrow in the world of the serial “witcher” is loudly and unconvincing). Myshovur in the first series walks on the besieged castle with such a face, as if he was walking idly with a feast. Kalante from the local Queen Spikes turned into a stubborn, stubborn, absolutely short-sighted boy-grandmother, which falls into a feast in the smeared bloody armor. Wilhewors does not particularly resemble the most powerful sorcerer of the continent, Kagyr is a terrible knight who can pursue you in nightmares. It’s better not to talk about triss.
Eighteen-year-old Freja Allan in the role of Ciri does not pull the twelve-year-old girl in any way, and explosions of emotions are obtained by some wooden. Due to the fact that the branch of the princess-runner was supposed to stretch out for the whole season, but the starting material was not enough, the scriptwriters had to extend her meaningless ordeals by any means-sometimes due to plot holes the size of a dragon. As a result, the same arch in the Brookilon Forest is devoid of all meaning, and the heroine line looks extremely artificially and strained.
Yennifer was killed with particular cruelty. Those who do not like the face of Ani Chalotra, it is worth remembering that Ian was not in the books a puppet beauty – her attractiveness was another. The problem is that Chalotra does not desperately pull the role of a fatal woman and begins to play something tolerable only at the very end of the season. Instead of “cold, piercing, evil and wise eyes of hunchbacks” she has a gaze of a sheep; You do not believe in the stage. Yes, and she got a ungrateful role: Ian is a complex and ambiguous heroine who annoyed many in the original, but here it is almost impossible to empathize with her. The motivation of the character rushes from side to side, like an arrow of a metronome, without transitional stages.
By the way, who gave the directors permission to the budget version of the Holy Ball from Harry Potter?
Oddly enough, Henry Cavill, who was showered with a hail of ridicule, annoys less than others. He is trying very hard to become the very Geralt, and at the end of the season you even begin to believe in it. Although at first his stray hoarse, wild grimaces and attempts with all his might to hold the mask of brutality on his face (because it seems that he constantly wants to run away from need) causes only laughter.
But who was definitely a success, is a buttercup: Bard-Balagur came out properly cute, funny and charming. Unlike background music, which often dissonates with what is happening on the screen, Beluttik's ballads always sound to the place, and the lyrical “Her Sweet Kiss” turned out to be at all worse than the zoynching “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher”.
Artistic performance could compensate for a mediocre scenario and unsuccessful castes, but also the problems. Yes, the gloomy, dirty and bloody world of the “Witcher” is recognized on the screen, but the cheapness shows in everything: in costumes, wigs, special effects, decorations. The pace and rhythm will constantly fail, not allowing to feel the importance of the moment. Torn installation teleports the characters from the battlefield to the castles for distant lands. Working with lighting is disgusting – what is the spotlight in the Brookilon forest, beating the viewer directly in the eye. Doubtful transitions, darkening and rapid sometimes give a similarity to the clip, and in this case this is not a compliment.
Combat and battal scenes look fucked. You can note a good battle in the first series and the battle for Sodden, which finally demonstrates the beauty and power of martial magic, but not one of them reaches the entertainment of the “Game of Thrones”. In addition, it does not leave that instead of real, heavy, deadly blades in the hands of the heroes, plastic props – so briskly waving weapons.
To be honest, it remains unclear for whom, in principle, this adaptation was created. For fans of books there are too many gag. For those who are unfamiliar with Sapkovsky, the authors leave too much important behind the scenes, as if implying that the viewer should already know everything.
In the spring it seemed that hardly another fantasy series this year would be able to break the scale of the drain of the “Game of Thrones”, but the “Witcher” managed to surprise. There are good and strong moments in it (especially closer to the end), but not a single aspect can be praised without a fat “but”. Absolutely everything is lame here: script, actors, production, music that is trying to catch up with drama where the delicate quiet sorrow would have approached more. Showranner Loren Hissrich has already stated that she did not care about the opinions of the crickets-it is scary to think about how the next season will come out if the given quality plan (as usual) will fall even lower.
