Narrative
In the winter of 1862, during the Civil War, the U. S. Army sends a volunteer company to patrol the uninhabited West. The Minervini set was built in Montana, and the cast was then allowed to live on it for two months. The spoken dialogue and thoughts are those that the actors had while imagining themselves as Civil War soldiers living in the desert. "The Damned" is a completely boring film. It feels like someone shot a home video with a phone or an old camcorder. While the landscapes are beautiful, the soldiers just walk around doing nothing. The changing seasons and snowfall add little to the experience. Overall, it’s a complete waste of time. You’d be better off watching traffic jams from your window in a big city than this movie. I thought the directors and filmmakers were famous, but I haven’t heard of them. It seems that the most notable filmmakers make films for intercultural audiences, not for ordinary people like me.
